Archaeologic excavation of Nerik, the religious center of the Hittite empire. In the 2nd millenium B.C. the Hittites ruled an empire that reached from western Turkey to the borders of Egypt.
This tunnel is already mentioned in the cuneiform texts in the archive of the Hittite capital Hattuşa. The stairs go from the temple around 20m down. Here was a well with admission for the priests only. Still filled with rubble, but the humidity is already noticeable.
