The name of the village Güzelyurt means "nice homeland" and is the historic Greek town Gelveri. In the village you can find traditional Greek stone houses, underground cities, several cave churches and a Greek church from the 19th century which serves as a mosque today. The mountains in the background are extinct volcans, called Melendiz Dağı. The highest volcan (right) is the Hasan Dağı, 3268m.
