For thousands of years Cappadocia is home of many peoples who immigrated and mixed with others. They brought many different cultures, which inspired each other and created something new. In everyday life these cultures find their expression in the architecture of traditional houses. Many of them had been destroyed due to the growth of the population and profit-oriented urbanisation. In 2012/13 the historic Greek quarter in Nevşehir was completely demolished, although about 400 of these building had been registered to be of historical importance.
